The Sundance Film Festival will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2009.
The annual Sundance Film Festival, held each January in Park City, Utah, is widely recognized as the premier showcase for American and international independent film and is considered one of the top five film festivals in the world (alongside Cannes, Venice, Toronto, and Berlin). Inclusive and eclectic in its programming approach, the festival has grown to include film culture events, panel discussions, youth programs, online exhibition, and live music. Attended by more than 45,000 people from around the world each year and with an online audience exceeding 1,000,000 users, the Sundance Film Festival creates a vibrant, unique community of artists and audiences that extends well beyond the mountains of Park City, Utah.
This year’s date for the festival are Jan. 15 – 25, 2009. The festival is normally busiest during the first period, and pass/packaged for this time tend to sell out first. Not that those for the second period sit on the shelf for long either! Generally it isn’t too important which period covers your Sundance visit, unless you want to go to the awards ceremony, in which case you obviously need to choose the second. It’s currently not possible to purchase a single pass for the entire festival (other than an industry pass).
There are many places you can stay for the festival in Park City, but lets face it, it’s going to be expensive. Westgate Park City Resort and Spa in Park City, UT is offering a Sundance Special. It is valid January 15 – 25, 2009 and is offering 15% off on a 3 night stay during the Sundance Film Festival. Rates start at $331 for studios, $552 for one bedrooms and $849 for two bedrooms.
